Unforgettable

I’ve got to say I’ve moved on to “unfathomable” to describe it all. I mean, really. You dream of the Sweet 16. You dare to dream of the Great 8 because Wichita State is a game you can win.

But the Final Four?

Egad.

***

I promised a list:

1. I’ve been to a billion basketball games in my life. None were like that. None were close. It’s also been approximately 35 years since I’ve needed a change of underwear for biological reasons. The big sign in my office now says: “It’s been 1 day since my last accident.”

2. I’m not so good with the “no cheering on press row” thing.

3. The atmosphere in the MCIVerizonSprintCingular Center was unreal. To see 18,800 of 20,000 fans standing for the final five minutes of regulation and the overtime was surreal. Remember, some of these people were from Wichita and Spokane and Parts Unknown.

4. Take That Moment: just after Brown’s final shot bounced away and a handful of hugs were dished out, Craig Littlepaige was swarmed by the media, led by ESPNs Andy Katz. I don’t know what was asked, but I can imagine. For the record, Littlepaige looked positively confident.

5. I remind you again: ODU plays tomorrow night at MSG. Mason isn’t the only program bringing attention to the CAA.

6. There was a clear buzz in the back halls of the Cell Phone Center afterwards. The media elite huddled and whispered, trying to figure out what just happened, and when it happened last. I’m not sure they know the former, nor if the latter ever occurred.

7. By the by, if ODU can win tomorrow night, that gives the CAA four teams with 25+ wins. I haven’t done the research, but I wonder how many times that has happened.

8. Who will be on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated? I cannot think of a story to top it. I predict a quad cover, or another regional shot with Larranaga, Donovan, Big Baby, and Farmar.

There will be more. I have a radio gig and some logistics still to set up.

  1. I imagine the book is taking a different turn, for the better. Maybe a movie deal, hopefully.

Go GMU, Go ODU, Go CAA. Keep Dreaming.

  2. 2. I’m not so good with the “no cheering on press row” thing.

That’s ok, neither are Billy Packer and Jim Nantz!

  3. I don’t know about that. Watching the game over it seems the announcers were awfully excited when UConn was making shots at the end.

  4. Was there a rumor out there today that GMason students asked Packer and Nance to publicly apologize. I heard some things and was wondering if that was true?
