The Rewind Button…

Old Dominion will not be nice, hosting Georgia State tonight. ESPNU at 9:00. It is the first rematch game on this year’s slate.  It was only 10 days ago that the Panthers coughed up a 17-point second half lead, only to have Trae Goldston bail them out with a three in the closing seconds.

Odd, yes. Necessary, yes. Even conference games are tough to schedule. You have to do it fairly–Saturday home games, not too many roadies in a row, travelocity nightmares, etc. all play into the picture. (Hofstra had to spend an extra day in Richmond because of snow in NY.) There are worse oddities than playing the same team two times in 10 days.

And in a few days I’m going to go a step further and propose something far more absurd. I think you will like it.

As for tonight’s contest, look for Blaine Taylor to have done something, anything, to keep his team from falling behind early. I’m not talking some old guy coming into the locker room and speaking about topics most of these 20-year olds tune out.

No, Taylor is famous for trying different things, many designed to simply loosen them up. Keep an eye on the postgame comments to see if Taylor let a pig loose in the locker room, or showed up to the walk-through in a 1970s leisure suit. (He’s not desperate enough to shave that ‘stache.)

My take: a grinding, ugly, satisfying eight-point Monarchs victory. Just enough to keep the kids hungry for the real test, and the real way to put the wheels back on tightly–a Saturday roadie with VCU.

ODU 61, Ga State 53.

  1. FWIW, your math is terrible. You predict an 8 point victory with a score of 60-53. I’m just sayin’.

  2. I deserve that. Fixed.

  3. I missed ODUs final point, when Joe Dukes gets called for goaltending a Jonathan Adams free throw.

  4. LOL. Well played, my friend.
