Brian Henderson Fouled Eric Maynor, and Other Facts…

1. Yesterday was so odd, so interesting, so shocking, we’re going to have to take some time today to sort it out…wow.

2. I’m glad I Tivoed The Dub/Mason.

3. No foul was called and ODU beat VCU 67-66.

4. ODU played well throughout and deserved a win.

5. Six teams are fighting for three Frisbees.

  1. 6. UNCW deserved to win. Mason didn’t cover the perimeter well enough and jacked up 27 three-pointers only making 8.
    7. Will Thomas had 19, 14 and 6.
    8. An NBA referee decided to show up and give an and-1 to Todd Hendley, putting Mason down by 1 instead of being tied at worst with 22 seconds left.

  2. you know…great pt. on no. 8. there were some b.s. calls in that game, but mason had too many other chances to not blow it.

  3. thank god another game was not ruined by a foul call. play better and win.

  4. I agree that ODU played well throughout making almost 50% of their field goals. They almost blew it at the end with the two missed free throws, but the strip on Maynor looked more like a mugging. Seemed like everyone in the stands was waiting for a call that never happened. Bad loss for VCU.

  5. How many times have we all seen no calls at the end of the game like the BH-Maynor call? Maynor was not his typical self in the last 2 minutes. BJ stole the ball from him, Eric has to foul, basically a 2 point turnover. Eric then charges into Hassell, and then the play at the end where great players always expect the call to go their way but not this time. VCU did not lose because of that play, ODU deserved the win because they outplayed VCU the whole game. BT’s strategy of Finney, Adams, and BJ guarding Maynor was fairly clever for the 2nd or third best coach in the league. IMO Maynor’s mistakes at the end were in large part due to the fatigue caused by the tough ODU defense with the more physical players. And to the real reason why VCU lost, besides Maynor and Shuler no one had more than 5 points for VCU. Against ODU, GMU, and UNCW that will haunt them in Richmond since no interior player has been able to score all year.

  6. Your headline reads like a cry baby. Sitting right behind the VCU bench I did not think it was a foul. Henderson caught Manor and the VCU fans by surprise so everyone just expected to get the call –this can’t happen to Manor he has to get the call. The ref did the right thing not blowing the whistle and ruining a great game. ODU won the game, hit a few more free throws and ODU wins by 10.
Next year when Shuler is gone, there is no one on VCU to take the heat off Manor. He will be double teamed every game and VCU will be like Agudio and Hofstra this year.

  8. If you sat behind the VCU bench and think there was no foul, perhaps you and Sean Cassady visit the same optometrist. http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper634/stills/06v6dlck.jpg

  9. Not that this will solve anything…but that picture proves nothing because the ball is already out. I think he got some hand and some ball and it’s the ref’s judgement at that point.

  11. In my world, the team that “deserves to win” is the one that plays better than the other team, even if it is not that teams best performance. We will never know which team that was in the VCU-ODU debacle due to the no-call flagrant foul committed by Brian Henderson. But I am absolutely stunned that you would suggest it is acceptable for officials to fail to fairly call the actions of a game because of a perceived “deserving to win”.

  12. You want a foul that was intentional or flagrant……

Simply look at Maynor forearm chuck he gave to Darius James while the ball wasn’t even in play. That foul that was called should have been intentional because he wasn’t going for the ball he was simply trying to hurt and knock down James.

Litos and the rest of the VCU fans need to take a hrad look at your cry baby selves. There were several other calls that could have gone either way or should have been called.

Poor sports simply put. I am so glad you guys keep reliving the end of the game. Priceless.

  13. First of all if maynor would not of flared out his arms that contact would not have happened…admit it henderson did not foul maynor it was a bad acting job….it was all ball next time when the ball is stolen he needs to learn how to get it back instead of showing a bad acting job!!!! that pictures prove NOTHING the ball was out of his hand when contact was made!!!

  14. About the UNCW game. I was somewhat surprised about the and-1, but Hendley made a smart senior move and went for the shot when he felt the foul coming. If you guys think Maynor should get that call for being a stud and 1st teamer, Hendley should also get the call for being a 5th year senior leader who is immensely respected around the league. Plus, he made the shot, which was a tough shot, and played great down the stretch, unlike Maynor. However, for the record, I do think that Maynor should have got the call. A foul is a foul, regardless of the score, the arena, or the player. Who knows, maybe Maynor misses both free throws.
Also, to the person commenting about the other B.S. calls in the Mason game, if you’re suggesting that the calls went UNCW’s way, then you are outside your mind. Mason coughed up that game in spite of the favorable calls (no one’s press is THAT good, Tomko got mauled a couple times, and Fountain should have had 6 free throws for the two three pointers that he ended up in press row after). In the spirit of Eric Maynor, T.J. Carter also got fouled, UNCW wins by 3.

  15. The picture proves nothing. The replay proves everything. Anyone who thinks BH got all ball needs to be declared legally blind. Unfortunately it was a non-call and the game is over. ODU got away with one, it’s part of the game. Subject over.
