Can’t Get Enough of You Baby

What is it about Friday afternoons that forces you to suspend all logic and reason and do whatever the heck you want? I’m going to pay the price Sunday evening for this, and I don’t care.

Some additional interesting factoids:

Where were you January 19, 2005: Drexel’s 14-point second-half rally to defeat Hofstra 95-87 in overtime last night ended the Pride’s 28-game regular-season home winning streak (22 CAA foes). Get this, too: It was third time in the past four meetings that the Pride and Dragons have battled to overtime.

The CAA, Big East and Pac 10 are the only Division I conferences to have four teams with 18 or more wins. First-place VCU (21-4) is one of 11 Division I squads with at least 21 victories. Eat that, Billy Packer.

Teevee: The nooner tomorrow between you-know-who and you-know-who is on CN8 and WSKY in eastern Virginia. And as mentioned, ESPN will televise the Hofstra/George Mason contest nationally. Ah yes, and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, CSN-Philadelphia and CSS will air the Georgia State/Towson game at 2 p.m.

VCU’s 13-1 CAA mark matches the best 14-game conference record in league history. Most recently, Old Dominion started 13-1 in 2004-05 on the way to a 15-3 finish. Former members Navy (1985-86 and 1986-87) and Richmond (1988-89) finished 13-1 with a 14-game league schedule.

I Can’t Believe I Forgot This Note: Loren Stokes moved past former American standout Brian Gilgeous into 7th place on the CAA’s all-time scoring list with 2,028 points. Stokes, who ranks second in the CAA and 13th in the nation in scoring with 21.2 ppg, also moved past current Atlanta Hawks player Speedy Claxton into fourth place on the Pride’s all-time scoring list. He ranks fifth among active career scorers in Division I. Translation: dude can play, and he should take home his tardy POY trophy this year.
