Flip, Flop and Fly

Some random notes and (somewhat) interesting minutiae…
Coaches quotes to come later today…

  • John Goldsberry became The Dub’s all time assists leader last week, with 464 (and counting)…the number is 10th all time in CAA history, and Goldsielocks has also moved up to sixth on the CAA’s career steals chart with 205.
  • If Jim Larranaga can manage a victory in Newark over the Fighting Nanas, he will tie Richmond’s Dick Tarrant for all time CAA victories. Tarrant has 106. Trivia: how many wins does Larranaga have?
  • Heading into BracketBuster Saturday, the CAA has a nonconference record of 61-46 (.570). Me thinks “62” is the big number, and it needs to be accomplished by Mason.
  • Five CAA games are scheduled to air on Sirius in February: Old Dominion/Hofstra on 2/2 (Ch. 159), George Mason/VCU on 2/9 (Ch. 159), Old Dominion/VCU on 2/11 (Ch. 146), Hofstra’s BracketBuster game on 2/18 (Ch. 125) and The Dub/VCU on 2/23 (Ch. 126).
  • ODUs 19-point first half was the third time this season the Monarchs have failed to hit the 20-point mark be halftime.
  • Dominick Mejia’s 34 points at ODU set a Constant Center scoring record by an opponent.
  • Ick: James Madison has suffered 10 straight losses by 15 or more points since beating Yale 79-69 on Dec. 29. Ick.

An Important Note
I’ll be traveling to Long Island and then Boston to cover ODU at Hofstra and then VCU at Nor’Easter this week. Ramblings will be sporadic beginning tomorrow. (Well, yes, I’m going to have some fun in NYC…)
