Tender is the Night

The Slate
Northeastern at George Mason: Everybody is touting this game as a barnburner, but honestly, I don’t see it. I really like Ron Everhart, but Mason just has tooooooooo much for the Huskies. Lamar Butler shows up, and Will Thomas continues to make strides, despite 7 Shawn James blocks and 28 from JJ Barea. Mason wins surprisingly easy, 84-72.

Georgia St at Drexel: This game will be about 12-10 in favor of Georgia State when Brusier Flint’s head actually explodes. After a lengthy delay, Mike Connors grabs the clipboard and Drexel gets focused, winning 64-54. Bruiser deemed “probable” for Saturday’s matchup against Delaware.

Towson at UNCW: I don’t care who else is playing basketball, on any level, tonight. I don’t think you will find a more compellnig matchup. The annual (Note: there is no more misused word in the sports lexicon than perennial. Look it up.) doormats from Maryland haven’t just won a few games. They look good. The Dub stands for all that is right in the CAA, including an old, sweaty, loud gym in which the home team always wins. The usually good team against the usually wretched team. Bad team playing well. Good team playing uninspired. At home. There are a pile of directions this game could go, and if anyone tells you they know which one, they are lying. I say UNCW 72, Towson 69.

Hofstra at Old Dominion: Another “my game” that I cannot wait to watch unfold. Yesterday’s Entry Tells You What I Think of This One. For another opinion, Kyle Has This As His GOTN. Methinks this one is a biggie. ODU is just a little too deep for Hofstra, especially since Adrian Uter is at least rusty, if not still injured. Uter is about as tough as they come, but it’s not enough. ODU 64, Hofstra 57.

James Madison at Delaware: Remember, a tie counts as half a win and half a loss. One of these teams could only hope…JMU gets the road win over the Fighting Nanas, 78-72.

William & Mary at VCU: Set your snooze button, unless you are a family member of one of VCUs benchwarmers. Rams 84, Tribe 63.
