Right Here, Right Now

So I’m watching the ODU/Northeastern game…at the half the Huskies lead 42-29 mainly on the strength of superior shooting and having the best two players on the floor.

Northeastern is shooting 55% to ODUs 31%, which explains a lot, but not everything. Alex Loughton is, to be frank, a nonfactor. Nada. I don’t know his exact stats, but the regining POY is just anotehr player. Really. I only remember one made layup and one pushing foul. Otherwise he has been as important as Sam Harris.

Shawn James had three blocks on ODU first possession, made a three, and JJ Barea has 17 points. James finished with seven first half blocks.

(TV comment: Loughton took three shots in the first half. My comment: Under NO circumstances should this be the case. Why is ODU unimpressive? Start right there.)

Tonight we have Drexel traveling to VCU in a game that could finish about 47-44. Both teams play hard-nosed defense and both have struggled from the field at times. This is an interesting game in that it is a must for VCU. They are 2-2 and anotehr loss, especially a home loss, would have a serious impact on the rest of the season. Drexel, meanwhile, can come into the Siegel Center loose. Its 3-0 record is tops, and a road loss to a good team is excusable. I’ll take the “desperate” team at home in this one. (But if you like offense, you may want to catch a Matlock rerun and check the boxscore.)

Other games:

Georgia St at Hofstra–The Panthers are going in the wrong direction at the wrong time. Hofstra’s bench is beginning to contribute for Tom Pecora. Look out.

William & Mary at UNC Wilmington–If I didn’t think Georgia State was going to get drilled, I would call this the mismatch of the day.

Delaware at George Mason–Wait a minute, this one could get ugly, too. Classic letdown game though. GMU will whip Delaware prett handily, but it won’t get ugly. GMU will relax a bit.

Towson at James Madison–Without Cavell Johnson, dismissed for good by Dean Keener this week, JMU will need to find the third scorer. In this game, they will. Still, this will be close.

  1. Things sure changed in the second half….

  2. You’re hard on Big Blue. Its called depth and balance. AL may not get POY this year – still time, JJB’s numbers are amazing – but he is still the focus of every team to stop. Monarchs have too much balance and they are very explosive.

  3. after reading some of your other blogs, i realize that you dont like old dominion. so i’m guessin you went to (or ar at) gmu?

  4. look at things again, he doesn’t like Mason very much either… must be a VCU guy.

  5. Look at things again, VCU wins on a last second shot and nothing is written about it two days later. Must be a Towson guy. 😉

  6. You are correct…somewhere 😉

Big Blue to be discussed today…has nothing to do with dislike…

  7. VCU takes down Drexel…NU made ODU work evry hard…ODU squeeking by GMU. I think VCU squeeked by Drexel. I really think if you are going to publish something that is representative of the CAA picture you should not be so biased. In fact VCU squeeked past Drexel. You didn’t even write anything about what happened in the second half of the NU/ODU game. Please put forth an effort to treat all teams fairly. I can’t wait to see what you write when ODU rips VCU next week.
